Biodiesel Plants

  • Converts vegetable oils, animal fats, waste grease and other organic materials to fuel-grade biodiesel.

  • Undergoes transesterification process.

  • Uses methanol as a solvent and sodium methylate (methoxide) as a catalyst. Methanol is recovered and recycled.

  • Produces glycerin as a by-product.

  • Typically uses a PLC (programmable-logic controller) to operate the process.

Solar Energy

Alternative energy encompasses a diverse group of technologies. What they have in common is that they attempt to provide energy without the undesirable consequences of traditional fuel sources, such as oil and coal. CEI has been involved in a number of alternative-energy projects, typically making use of our ability to provide scale-up of laboratory processes. CEI has been involved in piloting efforts in the following technologies:

  • Liquid-metal heat transfer for thermal solar systems
