Use Transportation Storage Handling Disposal Clean-up Sodium : NaK Cleanup Activities

CEI manufactures a range of sodium-based chemicals.

Collectively, CEI has more than 50 years experience working with alkali metals. Our staff is able to help with all aspects of these unique materials. During just the past three years, we have been involved in the following alkali metal activities that may be of interest:

NaK and Sodium Disposal / Destruction Systems

CEI produces three skid-mounted systems for the purpose of a controlled reaction of NaK and Sodium to hydroxides
CEI utilizes a closed system for reaction of sodium dispersion with water. Tests have yielded excellent results. This system produces no emission, and no permits are required to operate the system.

Sodium Dispersion

designed and constructed a sodium dispersion plant
operate the dispersion plant on a daily basis

Sodium Handling & Storage

four sodium metal storage and transfer facilities for various customers
designed several sodium metering systems for chemical reactor feed
two automated sodium transfer systems for batch transfer of sodium

In the Nuclear Industry

designed and executed a process to clean several large sodium cold traps at a nuclear facility
designed and executed a process for removal and reaction of all NaK from a skull caster furnace cooling system for DOE after it was damaged by an industrial accident involving NaK
designed a custom pump for sodium disposal at a nuclear reactor

These projects involved all the usual safety requirements of working with alkali metals plus the precautions required when working in radiologically contaminated work sites.
