Alkali metals in metallic form can be used in various chemical and metal reactions. Applications include the following:
- Potassium manufacture
- Sodium borohydride used in the chemical and paper industries
- Elastomer-manufacturing catalyst
- Dyes and pigments (usually as an alcoholate)
- Ibuprophen precursor
- Metal refining
- Metal manufacture (Ta, Si, Ti, and others)
