Our Staff of Consultants, Engineers, Technicians

CEI’s staff of consultants, engineers, technicians are committed to the three objectives with which Kevin Berry and Rich VanLieshout formed Creative Engineers in 1996:

  • Bring creativity and a fresh approach to process and project engineering, specializing, but not limited to, the chemical industry.
  • Get back to doing the type of work they enjoy most—solving real-world processing problems.
  • Hire only engineers with considerable experience in daily plant operations.

Call 443-807-1202 or contact us for more information about our chemical and process engineering services. Our staff will be happy to assist you further.

Principal Consultants

Rich VanLieshout

photo of Rich VanLieshoutResumé
Rich has worked in the chemical industry for more than 30 years. Functional areas of involvement include: business management, process engineering, project engineering, maintenance, product development, operations, EH&S, and plant management. Specific industries have included plastics, pigments, defoamers, specialty chemicals, specialty metals, minerals and environmental remediation. Rich’s very broad background is his greatest strength in bringing new ideas to the table and questioning the status quo. To go along with the lessons of real-world manufacturing, Rich has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA. (Yes, it is amazing, an ME who can do process design.) In his limited spare time, Rich enjoys pursing skiing, biking, sailing, and tennis.

Chad A. Bohannon, PE
Vice President and Director of Operations

photo of Chad Bohannon
Chad is a chemical engineer (BS, University of Pittsburgh, 2000) and chemist (BS, Gannon University, Pa., 2001) with 10+ years experience in chemical production, operation of specialty batch processes, waste handling, and design and operation of alkali-metal handling and reduction systems used in the chemical, metal, and nuclear industries. Chad has been the primary driver in the company’s move into etchants (sodium naphthalene and sodium ammonia) and sodium dispersion products. He is also a key player in research conducted for our various customers. Chad joined the company after completing his dual degree and a co-op program at a specialty chemical–manufacturing plant. He has been a tremendous asset to the company, with a sharp mind, strong back, and good nature. Besides his two degrees, Chad is also a registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In his spare time Chad enjoys spending time with his three children.

Kevin Berry, PE
Vice President and Technical Manager – Sodium, Potassium, NaK

photo of Kevin Berry
Kevin has proven himself an expert in the handling and use of sodium, potassium, lithium, and NaK. Kevin has over 40 years engineering experience and over 35 years experience handling sodium, potassium and NaK. Kevin may just be the most experienced person available to assist in this very specialized area of chemical processing. Having worked with many unit ops, Kevin also has a great deal of experience in the area of specialty-chemical batch processing. Strong powers of observation have enabled Kevin to quickly spot areas of improvement for many clients. Kevin is a registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and has a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. In Kevin’s spare time, you’ll find him with his pride and joys—five grandsons!
